Interest in the environment is at a high in Skanska. Mats Williamson, President of Skanska Sverige, believes that it is important to maintain interest in this issue. He sees it as his task to stimulate environmental initiatives and to ensure that excellent examples are promoted.
As an example of reducing its impact on the environment, Skanska has become more cautious in its use of resources in construction processes. An example of this is Moderna Hus, where Skanska has reduced energy costs by 30 percent due to a well thought-out process and smart components. Climate changes are at the top of the agenda, meaning that the company looks at how buildings are designed and whether the land is suitable. In addition, it is important for Skanska to coordinate transportations to its 3,000 building sites in Sweden.
“Many believe that we work with pouring concrete, but it is more a case of making it simpler for people to travel, and enjoy a better school environment and improved housing,” says Mats Williamson to Dagens Miljö.
